Young researchers can apply for the following funding:

Grants towards travel expenses for attending conferences

The Medical Research Foundation at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen subsidizes travel expenses for attending conferences.

The program is aimed primarily at doctoral candidates, doctors involved in research and scientists from all subject areas, clinics, departments and institutes at the Faculty of Medicine.

General:

  • Subsidy of up to 500 euros per conference

Requirements:

  • Main author or presenter of an abstract accepted for an academic conference in Germany or abroad.
  • No more than 28 years old (cut-off date is the date of submission of the abstract)
  • Nomination by the head of the clinic/department/institute or supervisor of academic work

Documents to be submitted:

  • Confirmation of own work as contribution to the academic conference / acceptance of abstract
  • Application form for official journey
  • A one page CV
  • Letter of recommendation from the head of the clinic/department/institute or supervisor of the academic work

  • Applications for funding for individual research projects can be submitted from any of the departments at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen and the Faculty of Medicine.
  • The funding is intended as start-up funding and is aimed predominantly at young researchers up to the age of 40.
  • Funding from the Medical Research Foundation at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen for individual projects is currently limited to 20,000 euros, but can still be topped up with additional funds from the matching funds program and the Research Foundation’s private research partnership program.

Important points

  • The application should be structured according to standard criteria and should not be longer than 10 pages. It should cover the following: scientific background of the research question, planned study (with detailed methodology), previous achievements/publications, planned timescale of investigations, breakdown of funding applied for; in addition, applicant’s CV and list of publications.
  • Declaration of whether an application for funding has been submitted to another body / mixed funding possible
  • As a rule, each application is assessed by two reviewers and a reporting officer, the final decision on funding is taken by the Board of Trustees and the Executive Board.
  • At the latest six months after completion of the project, applicants are expected to submit a final report to the Medical Research Foundation on their own initiative. Alternatively, a recent publication from the project may also be submitted.
  • All publications and abstracts from the funded project, including projects with mixed funding, should include the reference “gefördert durch die Forschungstiftung Medizin am Universitätsklinikum Erlangen” or “supported by the Medical Research Foundation at Universitätsklinkum Erlangen, Germany” and be forwarded to the Research Foundation without waiting for a request.
